PRICE REDUCED!!! This 1955 Chris-Craft 29 foot Semi-enclosed Cruiser is a rare, limited production vessel powered by twin engine Hercules, an open cockpit design mid to aft ship, and an enclosed cabin forward. Designed by Chris-Craft founder Chris Smith primarily for his friends and close acquaintances, a good number of the 29's were specifically built as either fishing or commuter vessels (according to grandson Chris Smith III). This particular production, number 23 of 36, favors the commuter vessel with an open-air cockpit, padded engine covers for lounging, captain/co-captain helm, and enclosed cabin forward. This layout favors that of the modern express or sun-cruiser. She was delivered in 1955 to Cleverdale, NY (Lake George area).
This boat was designed to be ultimate lake or riverboat with superb handling in rough waters. The original equipment list provided by Chris-Craft archives at the Mariner Museum indicates this vessel was optioned with the most powerful engine configuration offered on this model at the time. They are the original matching twin counter rotating Hercules ML engines producing 145 hp each for a total of 290 hp and a top speed of 37 mph. Other original equipment includes foredeck and rails, hardware, gauges, magnificent light fixtures, spotlight, horn, windshield glass/wipers, foredeck glass, etc. She is located in Knoxville Tennessee and has been covered and drying out for the last nine months. Structurally she is fairly good condition for her age. Some trouble spots are a few bad planks at the bow directly under the deck/toe rails and at the bottom of the transom. Aesthetically, she needs refreshing to bring out her real beauty. Included in the pictures are restorations performed by St. Paul Shipwrights to a Chris-Craft Sportsman of the same vintage, class, and similar design.
